City of the Dead - San Cataldo Cemetery by Aldo Rossi - Photos by World-3
Aldo Rossi may have produced the world’s most unscaleable architecture. So much of the milieu of buildings gives scale, handrails, operable windows, balconies. They are of course useful objects in the functioning of a building, but scale goes beyond pure use, these elements allow us to understand and how to interact with a structure, they teach us to live with the architecture. Rossi work is purposely difficult to scale and thus makes it difficult to understand and react against.
